David wrote most of the music later stated that he was particularly proud of the chord progression. The earliest version even had a long choir part in the middle section, similar to what David and Richard used to do on the 4-piece live version of Atom.

A Fender telecaster electric guitar, on the other hand, has a simple design using a single cutaway with two single coil pickups, but has no tremolo bar which produces a thin sound.

The progress of this type of work is slow, hence the long hiatus, however, a lot of new data have been collected regarding Fender amplifiers, including production numbers. Advances have been made with regards to the production of tolex amps and it appears that much of this information can be applied to late s tweed amps as well. In addition, the dating-by-serial number tables have been revised and are more accurate.

The bad news is that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done on the silverface amps. Unfortunately, there is some sad news to report as well. Boy could he play! Anyhow, the metal, hair, and power pop bands of those days all put good, strong guitar soloing up front in the mix, and I enjoyed it. I automatically block out vocals and lyrics, by the way, so I pay no attention to them! Apparently he had some prototypes made by a Western Canadian company, though those my never have gone into production.

Hondo gets little respect from most guitar aficionados, but it really should, both because it contributed quite a bit to guitar history and actually made some pretty good guitars though not all, it must be admitted. Hondo was founded by Freed and Tommy Moore in with the intention to open up guitar production in Korea, at that time a non-player in the guitar game.

The first Fender solidbody model, the Esquire , lasted in name only from June to October This model name was replaced by the “Broadcaster”, which lasted in name only from the October to January All Broadcasters have truss rods, where many Esquires often have no truss rod. In Gretsch had trademarked the name “BroadKaster” for a line of drums. After advertising the Broadcaster in music trade papers in February 20, , Gretsch took notice and sent Fender a telegram asking them to change their name.

Therefore Fender was forced to drop the name Broadcaster. Starting around February 22, , Fender cut the word “Broadcaster” off of their headstock decals.

Its single-cut solid-body design was revolutionary in , back at a time when most electric guitars basically looked like acoustic guitars with cords sticking out of them. Standard Tele bodies are made of alder, a snappy tonewood also used in Stratocasters. For the neck and fingerboard you have a choice between one-piece maple, or maple with a rosewood fretboard. The maple fingerboard will sound brighter where the rosewood will round the tones off a bit.

For the classic, twangy Telecaster sound maple is probably the better choice, but this decision is up to personal preference of course. Fender American Standard Telecaster:

About a week ago, my friend Jeff Aragaki of Aracom Amps mentioned people finding great vintage gear in pawn shops. But today, I happened to park in front of a pawn shop I work about 20 miles from where I live , and after lunch, on a whim, decided to go in. This was a little pawn shop that mostly specialized in jewelry, but they had a number of amps and guitars as well. But tucked in behind some guitars was a Fernandes Strat-copy that caught my eye. It had a nice, white finish with a maple neck I LOVE maple necks , and it was obviously well-used from where I could see it.

The shop owner walked up, and I asked to inspect the guitar. I was really impressed by the workmanship. I had heard of Fernandes guitars being very high-quality for a great price, but upon seeing the workmanship up close for the first time, I was very impressed. And even though this guitar was well-used, I could tell it was taken care of because of only minor scratches and dings on the body. But that was a good thing because it gave me some time to do some research.

This made the guitar a bit more unique.

The Story of Hondo Guitars

What year is this Fender jazz-bass S ? For most of Fender’s U. Most notably, production dates have been penciled or stamped on the butt end of the heel of the neck of most guitars and basses, although there were periods when this was not consistently done to , for example or simply omitted. Neck-dating can be useful in determining the approximate age of a guitar, but it is certainly not definitive because the neck date simply refers to the date that the individual component was produced, rather than the complete instrument.

Given the modular nature of Fender production techniques, an individual neck may have been produced in a given year, then stored for a period of time before being paired with a body to create a complete guitar, perhaps, for example, in the following year. Therefore, while helpful in determining a range of production dates, a neck date is obviously not a precisely definitive reference.

Squier Company in ; by the Squier name had resurfaced as a low-cost “value brand” alternative initially manufactured and distributed in the Japanese domestic market and soon offered to Europe, North America and the rest of the world. When Squier versions of these instruments appeared, demand for them as the “official” cost-conscious alternatives was immediate, and a brand name was reborn.

To maintain and control costs over the years, Squier instruments have been produced in several nations, including Japan, Korea, India, China, Indonesia and Mexico. While the brand has produced its share of innovative designs over the past 25 years, its main focus and most successful approach has always been to be the “value brand” alternative to its big brother, Fender. It sure didn’t start out that way, though.

Let’s go back to the very beginning Squier Jerome Bonaparte “J. He moved to Boston in , where he built and repaired violins with his son, Victor Carroll V. To this day, their violins are noted for their exceptional varnishes, and they command high prices as fine examples of early U. Squier ranks among the best-known U. As his business grew, Squier moved the company to Lake Ave. With a limited market for violins in Battle Creek, however, Squier astutely sought relationships with national music schools and famous violinists.

Up to , the best violin strings were made in Europe. Victor Squier started making his own hand-wound violin strings, and the business grew so quickly that he and his employees improvised a dramatic production increase by converting a treadle sewing machine into a string winder capable of producing 1, uniformly high-quality strings per day.
